Koraisoft service

Moving away from VMware

Since the overhaul of VMware licensing, many companies are reviewing their virtualisation. Changing hypervisor is not enough: inventory, backups, networking and permissions must follow.

The short answer

Koraisoft studies the exit, prepares the target and carries out the migration, then hands operations over to your team. The target is chosen according to your context: KVM, Proxmox or Nutanix. On a KVM target, kFleet can serve as the operations console.

Study before deciding

The decision rests on actual usage, not on a comparison of feature lists.

  • Inventory of machines, storage, networking and backups
  • Qualification of machines compatible with the target
  • VMware features actually used and their equivalents
  • Written migration plan, with its risks

Migrate without interruption

Migration is done in batches, each one verified, with rollback planned.

  • Backup and restore tested before each batch
  • Networking, permissions and monitoring carried over
  • Operating procedures for the new platform
  • Training for the team that will run it

Does this apply to you?

It fits if…

  • The cost of your VMware virtualisation has changed or is about to.
  • You want a target you control, on your servers or with a European hosting provider.
  • You need support, not just software.

Limits to know

  • Not every machine converts automatically: a compatibility study remains essential.
  • Some advanced VMware features have no direct equivalent and need a tailored solution.
